The Aluminum Series combines a Honda GX390 engine with a CAT triplex plunger pump, a pairing common on professional rigs. A triplex pump uses three plungers, which gives a smoother, longer-lasting flow than the axial pumps on cheap washers, and CAT is a pump maker contractors specifically look for. The engine includes low-oil shutdown, which protects it if the sump runs low.
It delivers 4200 PSI at 4.0 GPM, or about 16,800 cleaning units when you multiply the two, compared with 14,000 on the 3.5 GPM Simpson PowerShot 4000. A thermal relief valve prevents the pump from overheating when you release the trigger, which is how many pumps fail. The aluminum frame keeps weight down and resists corrosion.
A 50 foot dual-braided Monster hose and five quick-connect tips come with it. Change the pump and engine oil on schedule, run pump saver in storage and winterize before freezing weather. It is a machine for owners who wash often.
What works
- Honda GX390 engine with low-oil shutdown protection
- CAT triplex pump with thermal relief valve
- 4200 PSI at 4.0 GPM gives about 16,800 cleaning units
- Aluminum frame is light and corrosion resistant
Watch out for
- Priced like professional equipment, well above the imports
- Powerful enough to etch concrete and strip wood in careless hands
- Gas upkeep and winterizing are required
