The Chefman 4 Qt adds a 450F Hi-Fry mode on top of the usual 400F ceiling, which helps finish frozen foods and sear proteins at the end of a cook. The narrow body takes less counter than a typical basket model, and the digital controls are straightforward. It is a basic design that does its one job well.
The tradeoff is that Hi-Fry is a finishing tool, not a magic setting; ordinary roasting at 400F is usually enough. Compared with the Instant Pot Vortex Plus Mini, it has fewer cooking functions, but it is simpler to use. It also lacks the viewing window the Cuisinart offers.
Ownership is routine. Hand wash the basket to protect the nonstick, avoid aerosol sprays and wipe the heater area to prevent grease smoke. The higher temperature ceiling gives a bit more room for crispy skin. Use Hi-Fry for the last two or three minutes of a cook rather than the whole time, since a hotter start can dry out lean meat. For a couple who mainly cooks frozen fries, wings and fish, this keeps things simple.
